Windows 7 RC Build 7100 on a P4 Laptop

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

Well I installed Windows 7 RC build 7100 on my laptop the other night to see whats different. Not much seems to have changed since build 7000, but I haven't looked too hard. As for running on an older laptop it runs great, not all the fun transparency stuff is there but it looks nice still and no lag running programs.

The only driver problem I had was it not knowing what the modem was, but I have yet to use it. But I just used the Windows XP drivers off of Pro-Star's website and it runs now. The touch pad software I had to load by updating the driver and not using the setup program.

Any way I like running it on this system that is 4 or so years old, the P4 3.0Ghz processor with 512MB of RAM doesn't do so bad. I only set up 15.8GB of space and with OpenOffice.org 3.1 and FireFox 3 I have 8.27GB free space. To bad I need the rest of the drive running XP for other work stuff, when the full release comes out I may do a smiler setup but swap the 15.8GB for XP and the 40GB for Win7.

I'll see about putting up some more info on this build and get some info on when we can go to the release.
