07/26/2010 Thought

Natural-Selection 2 alpha came out tonight, lots of things not done yet but cool to see. It will be fun when it's done. I think it may be time to upgrade my computer but it will be a while till I can save up for it.

I'm trying to post more but I say this all the time but just need to do it.

Google Public DNS

Google now offers public DNS servers, guess there doing that same thing as OpenDNS is doing. But when you go to a page that isn't there you well get a Google search? Well here is what is on there site http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ :

What is Google Public DNS?

Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS)resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.

To try it out:

Speedtest.net on Schools Internet

I just did a speed test on the connection at the school I work at, and it came up 30Mb/s down and 24Mb/s up thats kinda sweet.

.

UPDATE: did another test and got better down but slower up lol

NYTimes.com has more ads then content

I went over to NYTimes.com to read a story that Google News had about EBay not making as much money now, and saw a big ad for Cisco longer then the 6 or 7 paragraphs of text. Then after that they have ads to get there paper delivered and even more Google Ads. Dang I hate not having Firefox at work with Adblock Plus.

Encarta 2008 looks like wikipedia

So well taking a brake at work tonight I went on the computer to look up the districts job listings for Juli, after I went on ms Encarta premium 2008 and looked at a story. And what do I see an interface that looks almost like wikipedia, how lame is that. Guess they took what works and flew with it.
I would go to wikipedia tho for info since Encarta's network article was from 2004 with old info. Good thing I don't depend on that stuff for info since I can get wikipedia on my phone were ever I go. By the way this was taped out on my BlackBerry pearl 8100.
