Podcast / Blog Month – November

So I heard that November is Podcast month, this is where if you are a Podcaster or want to start then you try and do a show every day for the month of November. I thought this would be a good way for me to get into doing shows so I plan on doing this. But with some modifications, I’m not sure if I will do a show every day but try and to one every other day at least.

Also it was brought up that you could do this in blogging, so I am going to post something every day in the month of November to WebLuke.Net, I hope it will be something good, may just be a video and some comments on it will have to see.

I may put up a sub-site for the Podcast not sure about that yet. I hope this will help me get use to posting more and also build my Podcasting skills or knowledge. I just hope I don’t skip out on this and miss building my abilities.

Gadget Reviews for Everyone

Over the years I have been posting on and off on my website about things I have been doing, things I find that are cool or fun, and just tips or tricks on things I use. But It seems that I may have more to add to my site along with something to add more content. I have noticed that most tech related blogs or sites seem to cover everything tech or just one specific topic, while that is good to do, they seem to miss something. They focus on so much detail and seem to get to a point where everything is amazing or it’s just another gadget. On the other end is normal people who don’t care about the details who want to say that something is cool but they just make a video on YouTube saying its cool.

There should be a middle ground, a place where the important details to a normal person to know if they want something but also enough techie details to let someone who knows more to understand what makes it work that good. An example is on a tech blog covering smart phones would have things like the model of the processer, screen resolution, and radio details. But do those things matter? Not really, what most people want to know is how big is it, is it fast enough to play games and stuff on, and what cell phone company will have it and that it will work on their WIFI at home.

So what I am trying to get at is that I want to start reviewing tech products that I find cool, that real people would want to have, and put it in a way that is not too techie and not too simple that about anyone can check it out and learn about something they have herd of or may want to get.

I know there are thousands and thousands of tech blogs and sites, some big some small, but I look at things different, and I hope that I won’t get to a point were when you have seen a hundred smart phones you have seen them all, but see a hundred and say these ten are good and here is what makes them cool or more interesting to look into getting over the others.

This will be a slow start, and I know I will have to spend a lot of time getting things started. But I think it will be something I will enjoy. I will also need test units and also just getting info on new products and if I can just playing with them in store because right now I have no way of buying things just to play with it for now. I’ll be working to change that soon though.

Any way look forward to more product reviews and in a way that not just a techie would know what I was talking about but with details that matter!

Learning HTML5 and CSS3

In the past few months I have been finding out that the school district I work at has not gotten enough money for some of the costs of running the schools. Because of this they have been cutting jobs and adding more work load to me and others around me. So this has driven me to look for something to help my situation, even though now I know I will have a job for the next year so far. Almost 7 years ago I learned how to build websites and I was coding all my own sites, then later switched over to Drupal and now I am using WordPress. While these are great tools I wanted to learn how to do all my own coding and start offering my services to local businesses.

So far I have learned how to do basic things now in HTML5 and CSS3, and I have been applying what I am learning to building out a site I am working on that has business listings. It’s amazing how much I have been able to remember because I learned how to do XHTML the right way and it has lots of things that are almost the same as HTML5.

One place I have been having problems getting use too was how much JavaScript you need to know, it’s almost all new to me but to make things work in most every browser you have to have a few tricks in your pages. Some other things I will be learning more about would be how to code a user system in PHP and some MySQL backend storage. I also need to get better with building some graphics for the pages. But it is all something that will happen and I know I can learn easy enough.

So where will I be building out more information on what I am doing is going to happen on WebLuke.com since I got it a few years ago and now it’s just pointing back to WebLuke.net.

Here is a link to the book I found that seems to be good at going over HTML5 and CSS3.

2011 New Year Already

So things here haven’t been up-to-date that much. With me getting colds and not liking how the podcast was turning out and the holidays the site was kind of neglected. But I think I have figured out how I want to do the podcast and should be coming out with a new show soon. As for the website, I am going to be posting more and try to post more of the new things I am learning. School for me has been going well but I think I need to read the books more because I think I am missing some of the information even though I know the answers to the questions they want answered.

So look out for more about what I am learning, podcasts on specific subjects not news, and I should be trying new stuff with servers and IT related subjects.
