Halo CE and Halo 4 E3

More fun at E3 2011, they announced the new Halo 4 and the rebuild of Halo Combat Evolved (the original Halo). Looks sweet, but Halo 4 won’t be until the Holidays 2012 and Halo CE will be out Holidays 2011. Also its good to point out that Bungie is not developing these so I feel something is missing L but it will be good I’m sure they won’t let it be bad.

Here are both trailers have fun with them!

Assassin’s Creed Revelations E3 Trailer

E3 is starting and I just watched the Assassin’s Creed Revelations trailer and it looks like it will be very cool. Of course they put him in another imposable to live situation and from all you see it looks like he will. There seems to be some new moves shown in there also.

Since its on TobyGames Youtube channel that explains how he got a E3 pass from UbiSoft but below is the video!

Google Music Beta

Just got home from getting my car fix and I found a nice email waiting for me from Google saying that I have been invited to their music beta. They announced the service less than a month ago at the Google IO conference, and I signed up to be added when they had more space for people. I also have the new music app on my Nexus One and it’s kind of nice but I don’t listen to music I have on my phone all that much.

I did try out the Amazon Cloud Player a week or so ago and it was kind of cool to just have the app on my phone and be playing the songs I got without adding them to my phone. Before that I was trying a server app combo that worked ok but it was running all the time on my computer and wanted me to donate to keep it working after a month, it was called Subsonic and works the same why that both Google Music and Amazon Cloud Player do.

So far I just clicked the link in the email (I know you shouldn’t click email links but I trust and saw who it was from,) on the page it had me accept some terms and conditions (that I didn’t read much of) and then asked if I wanted some free music, I took everything just to see what there was nothing all that amazing but whatever. Then it asked to download the Music Manager and then skip on to the player.

The Music Manager was a web installer like the Chrome installer, after a user email and password it was setup very fast. On first load it asks if you want to import music from iTunes, Windows Media, My Music, or a Other folder. Because I don’t have iTunes installed and wont install it because its garbage and none of my music is in one place I did Other folders and added a few folders to the program. It then looked at the files and after the scanning of over 1,000 files it asked if I want to upload my files. It changes over to a new window showing progress and from there you can add folders and what not.

It did have an error uploading a file and it was shown in a separate window, I wouldn’t be surprised of an error because some of my music has come from years of collecting, computer wipes, and different sources. Back on the website I was seeing new songs show up and are organized kind of nice.

So far it plays good on a computer, pages load fast and the music streams like it was playing right on the computer. As for the Android app it took a second to load up the listing in the app after setting up the account to use. When you would play a track that was not cashed to the phone a few second later it would start playing over WIFI and you can see a tinted progress bar where it shows the play progress. But it all plays very nice ill have to see how 3G works some other time.

I think that Google has it working the best, but it is almost the same thing as Amazon, one difference is that Google counts the number of tracks and Amazon counts gigabytes giving you 5GB free on Amazon and 20GB if you buy an album. Where Google gives you 20,000 tracks at this point, who knows what they will do, if it’s like Picasa they will give a usable amount then sell you a yearly amount for a good price.

If you go over to http://music.google.com it looks like they are opening it up to anyone right now for there “free for a limited time” so go check it out. Below is a few screen shots of the service. Have fun with this, it might just get me to listen to more music or ill just stick with http://di.fm 😀

Learning HTML5 and CSS3

In the past few months I have been finding out that the school district I work at has not gotten enough money for some of the costs of running the schools. Because of this they have been cutting jobs and adding more work load to me and others around me. So this has driven me to look for something to help my situation, even though now I know I will have a job for the next year so far. Almost 7 years ago I learned how to build websites and I was coding all my own sites, then later switched over to Drupal and now I am using WordPress. While these are great tools I wanted to learn how to do all my own coding and start offering my services to local businesses.

So far I have learned how to do basic things now in HTML5 and CSS3, and I have been applying what I am learning to building out a site I am working on that has business listings. It’s amazing how much I have been able to remember because I learned how to do XHTML the right way and it has lots of things that are almost the same as HTML5.

One place I have been having problems getting use too was how much JavaScript you need to know, it’s almost all new to me but to make things work in most every browser you have to have a few tricks in your pages. Some other things I will be learning more about would be how to code a user system in PHP and some MySQL backend storage. I also need to get better with building some graphics for the pages. But it is all something that will happen and I know I can learn easy enough.

So where will I be building out more information on what I am doing is going to happen on WebLuke.com since I got it a few years ago and now it’s just pointing back to WebLuke.net.

Here is a link to the book I found that seems to be good at going over HTML5 and CSS3.

Spring Dust Out 2011

Summer is coming here on the North end of the World so I was thinking it would be a good time to bring up the need to keep your computer clean, what do I mean by clean, I’m talking about the dust the collects inside that adds heat and slows cooling. While this is an important step to keeping your computer working good don’t forget to keep a firewall running and an anti-virus software up-to-date such as Microsoft Security Essentials.

So why am I bringing this up, it has to do with the fact that its getting warmer and will soon be full on summer. When your computer is hot it will not run as well, is more likely to develop hardware failures, and will become noise as it tries to keep its self cool by spinning up the fans faster. Also on the point of noise, a dirty fan blade will make more noise thus making it sound worse than it is also.

It is important to do this every few months depending on where the system is located, so if it is in an older house with animals then it will get dirty faster than up on a desk in a new house with little dust. But every 3 months is a good time to check if you see dust build up in your system. Setting how long you wait depends on how dirty your system gets so it may not need to be done as much or more.

To check your system and to open it up to blow out the dust you may want to un hook the cables and take the case out side where you won’t worry about blowing dust all over. If you are someone who doesn’t do this much you may want to label what cables are to what, in most cases you just need to keep the colors correct.

When you have set the system on a solid spot free from water and dirt you should have an air compressor or compressed air in a can. Before you start just spraying air every were make sure you don’t turn the air cans upside down because it will spray moisture that could damage your system. Second when shooting air on to fans you want to use a pin or something to stop the fans from spinning up, letting them spin can damage them just don’t push the pin too far to damage other things past the fan. Also remember try not to touching components in the system. Now before you do any blowing ground yourself to a wall switch or something so you don’t shock anything.

Let’s start by blowing out the fan and heat sink of the CPU, it will be in the middle and the biggest cooler in the system. Next work your way to the graphics card, it is most likely the first big card next to the CPU. Now get the case fans and not to forget the power supply, a big box at the top or bottom in the back that has a big black power cord in it. Finally get all the dust off the boards, drives, and any part of the case to get it all clean.

Now that it is all blown out put the side back on, take it inside to where you have your system and hook up the wires how you had them. It is also good at this time to sweep out any dust that is back there you may want to use the air or a vacuum so that that dust doesn’t just get sucked right in to your system.

Start your system and all should be cooler and quieter. It would be a good time also to run a defrag on your hard drive and check for updates. Also you may want to run a full virus scan just to make sure everything is all as it should be.

Just a reminder I am not responsible for whatever you may do to your system, this is just some points that you may wont to do. If you don’t feel that you want to do this you may ask someone you know that is good with computers about doing this for you.

The Humble Frozenbyte Bundle

The pay what you want game bundle is back, I got this last year with games like World of Goo, this year it looks good, but its a good way to get some cool games for what ever you think they are worth. Also you can add them to Steam so you don’t have to worry about updates or installing problems. What you pay goes to the developers, and or charity’s how ever you set it up. Go to http://www.humblebundle.com to get in on the fun.

What we have learned in 2,065 years…..

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome becomes bankrupt.  People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.

– Cicero 55 B.C.

So….evidently, we’ve learned nothing.

Blonde With Monkeys

A blonde motorist was about two hours from San Diego when she was flagged down by a man whose truck had broken down The man asked, “Are you going to San Diego ?”
“Sure,” answered the blonde, “do you need a lift?”
“Not for me. I’ll be spending the next three hours fixing my truck. My problem is I’ve got two chimpanzees in the back which have to be taken to the San Diego Zoo. Could you possibly take them to the zoo for me? I’ll give you $100 for your trouble.”
“I’d be happy to,” said the blonde. So the two chimpanzees were ushered into the back seat of the blond’s car and off they went.

Five hours later, the truck driver was driving through the heart of San Diego when suddenly he saw the blonde walking down the street and holding hands with the two chimps. He pulled off the road and ran over to the blond. What the heck are you doing here?” he demanded, “I gave you $100 to take these chimpanzees to the zoo.”
“Yes, I know you did,” said the blonde,” but we had money left over—so now we’re going to Sea World.”

O the random stuff my Dad sends me.

Fun With Tasker

A few months back I had found a development thread on XDA-Developers forum about a proxy app that runs on rooted phones, when someone asked if there was a way to have it turn on for a specific WIFI SSID, but it wasn’t part of the app. One of the posters gave some almost useful instructions on using an app called Tasker to automate the process. So I went and got Tasker and never got any where with it until a few days ago.

Since the app was running in the task bar I started messing with it before falling asleep and to my surprise they did have good help and even a few wiki sites that talked about how to set up different tasks. I tried the one that turned WIFI off when not at locations you can connect to but it wasn’t specific to where it was unless I left the GPS on all the time and that wasn’t a solution. But by playing with that one I started to understand how things worked, and tried a few of the others on the wiki.

I now have tasks that turn off the sound at night unless it is a stared contact calling, it turns off the WIFI when I dock it in a car dock, and have it setup to turn on the GPS when an app I know needs it is started and shuts off when it closes. A few other little ones make notifications reminding me to take vitamins since I’m trying to live healthier. There are a few things that I still want to setup and from everything I can see it’s all possible.

So if you’re looking for a way to have your phone automate things for you that you do often check out Tasker in the Android Market.

Android Market on PC

So Google released the Android Market on PCs in a web browser a few days ago, and from my playing around with it, it’s kind of cool. There is lots of work to be done though but it’s a start. First you can install apps from the website and have it install on your device right away. This makes it really nice so you don’t have to do all that scan a QR code or send a link to the phone or what not. Second it’s easier to find apps you may want to use, and it’s easier to see what they are with more images and even videos of the apps. But finally the bad part is it is always trying to get you to get the paid apps, which is ok but I like to find free apps and if I like them to get the paid version with more features.

Other then the fact that it wants all paid apps, I like being able to get new apps easy.
